Just wanted to make a quick post about a new Flash Video Player that Lee Brimelow has released on his blog.

It’s pretty simple, without any bells or whistles, and he’s released the .FLA so you get to check out how Lee himself does some of his own backend development. Go ahead and check it out.

  1. You may want to rename the title a bit because it makes confusing. Flash Player is much different than flash video player. Also, his name is Lee Brimelow , not Lee Brimlow.

  2. Thanks for those observations “abc” :-)

  3. Hi Lance

While i appreciate your findings, a question sprang to my mind :

    - shouldn’t you be putting forards Video players for sale on FD rather than free ones ?

I guess FD will now be inundated with copies of Lee’s work. ( like with many of his files which come with the sources )

  4. Max, this post was just geared towards community sharing, I think we should all take it in that spirit.

Even if someone gets inspired by his video player to build on top of that I do not see any harm in it, provided Lee doesn’t mind that {I’m not aware of the copyrights in his files}. I have shown many files from users here in previous posts, that will continue on an a regular basis. But it’s nice to see what others are up to now and then, wouldn’t you agree?

  5. Not the best coded Video player.

He’s using a lot of if, else messes instead of a clean switch with constants to detect event modes. The code is also littered with magic numbers too.

Not bad design wise but under the hood, it could be a lot more efficient.

I’m not trying to knock the player or the author. Actionscript3 is a sexy beast and under the hood, the video player isn’t showing that off.

I wouldn’t “build” upon it and repackage it for FD. You can surely see the idea behind developing a video player and use that idea but please don’t reuse the code.

  6. Ok Lance - i really didn’t mean to offend you !

And yeah, link to free files as much as you want, it’s all good for me !

BTW - i think you’re doing a great job at regularly updating the foxHole Blog…
